Sen. Larry Walker Attends Joint Defense Commission Meeting at Clay National Guard Center
ATLANTA (April 30, 2021) | On April 22, 2021, Sen. Larry Walker (R – Perry) and members of the Georgia Joint Defense Commission convened for their meeting at Clay National Guard Center in Marietta, Georgia. The agenda included discussions on Army issues and priorities, legislative updates from the 2021 session and briefings on three of Georgia’s bases: Fort Benning, Fort Gordon and Fort Stewart.
“Being chosen to serve on the Georgia Joint Defense Commission has been a great honor and I am reminded of that each time I am able to converse with such incredible leaders within the military community,” said Sen. Walker. “Each member of the Commission is committed to finding ways to better serve and defend not only the people of this state, but also our nation, and are well attuned to the value of our state’s military bases. As those in Middle Georgia are familiar with, our military installations are pivotal to the success, development and economic growth of many of our communities. Technological expansion and innovation, of course, being some of these key drivers of growth. I hope as the conversations continue, we are able to find synergy between the state’s sectors in order to further strengthen Georgia’s workforce and military initiatives.”
The Georgia Joint Defense Commission was first created in 2018 through the passage of Senate Bill, 395, and is composed of members of the General Assembly and both civilian and military leaders. The intent of the Commission is to evaluate defense and military issues, and provide recommendations that support the development of these installations.
