Rochelle White Named OFTC’s 2022 EAGLE Winner
OFTC – Rochelle White of Dublin, Ga., was recently chosen as Oconee Fall Line Technical College’s (OFTC) 2022 Exceptional Adult Georgian in Literacy Education (EAGLE) winner and will represent the College at the EAGLE Leadership Institute in Atlanta in May.
White is an OFTC adult education student taking classes at the Transformers Building in Dublin.
EAGLE is the first statewide program in the nation that recognizes and rewards excellence among students enrolled in adult education programs. This student recognition program is designed to create greater awareness of educational opportunities that are available in local communities across the state and to foster greater involvement in lifelong learning pursuits.
Each year, adult education teachers in public, private and grantee agencies nominate students at the local program level to participate in the EAGLE recognition program at the state level; nominees are chosen based on character, attitude, attendance, leadership and community involvement and activities. Nominees are required to give a written speech in front of a panel of judges and sit through an interview process.
“Rochelle is a determined, focused student that will not only obtain her GED but continue with her education to become a registered nurse,” shared OFTC’s Dean of Adult Education, Demme McManus. “We are proud to have Rochelle represent our program in the state competition.”
White currently works full-time as a Certified Nurse Aide at the Veteran’s Administration. After obtaining her GED, Horton plans to continue in her education to become a registered nurse.
The Technical College System of Georgia (TCSG) through its Office of Adult Education (OAE) sponsors the annual EAGLE Leadership Institute.
