GA 46 pavement preservation activated in two counties

SOPERTON - Today Everett Dykes Grassing begins two Georgia DOT roadway maintenance jobs improving State Route (SR) 46 conditions and longevity in Laurens and Treutlen counties. Both contracts combine for a $806,757 investment.

Crews will enter travel lanes in Laurens County first and then work towards Soperton.

    Contract provisions cover:
    • Laurens County
      • SR 46 from the Dodge to Wheeler County line
      • Work includes 30 total lane miles
      • Crews will asphalt patch, single-surface treat (rock seal), stripe and apply raised reflective pavement markers.
    • Treutlen County
      • SR 46 from the Wheeler County line at the Oconee River to downtown Soperton
      • Work includes 16 total lane miles
      • Crews will asphalt patch, thin lift level bumps over drainage structures, single-surface treat, stripe and apply raised reflective pavement markers.
Expect single lane closures at various times the next few weeks. Once asphalt patching is done, the contractor must wait 30 days to begin the surface treatment work.

There were 17,297 work zone related crashes that occurred in Georgia in 2020.
Distracted driving is a key cause of work zone crashes. Cell phone use is prohibited while you’re behind the wheel.
