    Christopher Fisher-Horton Named OFTC’s 2020 EAGLE Winner

Dublin, Ga., (OFTC) --Christopher Fisher-Horton of Dublin, Ga., was recently chosen as Oconee Fall Line Technical College’s (OFTC) 2020 Exceptional Adult Georgian in Literacy Education (EAGLE) winner and will represent the College at the EAGLE Leadership Institute in Atlanta, March 9-11, 2020.

Horton is an OFTC adult education student taking classes at the Transformers Building in Dublin.

EAGLE is the first statewide program in the nation that recognizes and rewards excellence among students enrolled in adult education programs. This student recognition program is designed to create greater awareness of educational opportunities that are available in local communities across the state and to foster greater involvement in lifelong learning pursuits.

Each year, Adult education teachers in public, private and grantee agencies nominate students at the local program level to participate in the EAGLE recognition program at the state level; nominees are chosen based on character, attitude, attendance, leadership and community involvement and activities. Nominees are required to give a written speech in front of a panel of judges and sit through an interview process.

“Christopher demonstrates leadership and determination in the classroom.,” shared OFTC’s Dean of Adult Education, Demme McManus. “He is also a leader with his peers and is committed to his journey to advance his education and his life.”

After he receives his GED, Horton plans to continue his educational journey at OFTC to obtain a degree in business and one day own his own business.

The Technical College System of Georgia (TCSG) through its Office of Adult Education (OAE) sponsors the annual Exceptional Adult Georgian in Literacy Education (EAGLE) Leadership Institute.
