Bridge award makes three upcoming in Laurens County

EAST DUBLIN - The Buckeye Road bridge over Buckeye Creek one mile south of the Johnson County line was built in 1958 and currently posted for load restrictions.

Thanks to a recently awarded $1.772 million contract for 0.123 miles of new approaches and a modern bridge Laurens County now has three new "off-system" bridge projects upcoming. Gregory Bridge has this particular contract to be completed by March 31, 2022.

Georgia DOT also awarded local road structure replacements in 2021 for N. Peachtree Road over Brewton Creek (E.R. Snell Contractor) and Lowery Firehouse Road over Ochwalkee Creek (Southern Concrete Construction). Combined all three contracts equal over $5 million in construction investment.

GDOT helps local governments reduce the number of posted and closed bridges throughout the state using different replacement programs. Each bridge has structural issues and will be brought up to modern design standards. These projects typically require a 90 to 120-day detour once under construction.
